In today’s day and age, it’s important to keep your home or business safe and secure by having a good house alarm system to deter intruders. However, you may be asking yourself, are house alarms that effective, what are the benefits, how do they work? In this article, we will try and cover these topics to help you understand why house alarms can be an effective form of security.
Burglars often try and avoid difficult break-ins, meaning the less noise and attention they bring the better, so having an alarm is a way to stop them in their tracks as it will alert people of their intentions.
According to The Guardian: ‘burglars are most likely to be put off breaking into homes by CCTV cameras and barking dogs’, according to a panel of former criminals interviewed.
It was also revealed that ‘half of the 12 former burglars consulted by Co-op insurance, said most thieves were ‘opportunists’ wandering the streets avoiding difficult break-ins that were likely to draw attention’.
To gain a deeper understanding of security in the UK, the Co-op Insurance surveyed 2,000 adults in 2017 about their home and car security, worryingly it revealed the following figures:
- 55% of those polled said they slept with their windows open at night
- 24% left their doors unlocked while at home
- 12% left their garden gates open
- A fifth of respondents even said they posted photographs online showing they were on holiday, drawing attention to their empty house
These figures are worrying as it makes it even easier for burglars to access these residents’ homes. It’s evident that by protecting your home with deterrents and practicing common safety measures, you can prevent intruders gaining entry to your home.
But the question is what can be done to tighten your home security, and how do house alarms help?
How do house alarms work?
We offer domestic burglar alarms, commercial intruder alarms and monitored intruder alarms to help enhance your safety measures.
They all work by alerting of break-ins by alerting a loud noise to act as a deterrent to stop burglars in their track. The noise causes people nearby to become aware of the break-in, causing them to look over – making any potential intruder visible and likely to run away.
